RETRAK's Core Values

Every CHILD is a unique and valuable gift to be loved and cared for
The FAMILY is the best environment for a child to grow and develop
ADULTS have prime responsibility to care for and nurture children
The COMMUNITY has a vital role to play in the protection and life of children

RETRAK's Mission

RELATIONAL - Our work is based on the foundation of trust, and staff treat each child as a unique individual
TRANSITIONAL - Projects are designed to help a child reintegrate into the community whether through reconciliation with relatives, foster care or training for independent living
HOLISTIC - All aspects of a child's developmen - physical, psychological, spiritual, social, cultural, or educational - are considered important and are included in projects
CHILD-CENTRED - Effective work must be focussed on the best interests of the child, appropriate to his age and stage and should involve children in planning and implementation
PROFESSIONAL - Building a strong national staff team is a priority reflected in careful selection, training, development and capacity building

RETRAK's Vision

RETRAK aims to establish locally relevant models of excellence in the holistic care of street and former street children, to build the capacity of local organisations working with street children and to raise awareness of the issues faced by street children and to speak out on their behalf.

RETRAK has, for a long time now, had the vision to extend the impact of The Tigers Club beyond Uganda, and to use the experience and lessons learned in Kampala to reach out to children in other cities. Since 2005, RETRAK has developed a partnership with The Caleb Project in Eldoret, Kenya and has opened a new project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and is exploring possibilities of extending the work to Kigali, Rwanda and Kinshasa in The D. R. C.
