After years of faithful service Karen Brown, Chair, and Colin Robinson stepped down from the Retrak board at their December meeting. Karen and Colin are the longest-serving trustees in the history of Retrak. In thanking her, Andy Williams, Retrak President Emeritus, commented that Karen had gone way beyond the call of duty. Karen stated that: “It has truly been a privilege to be part of a team that is passionate about helping young boys and teenagers living on the streets discover their worth and realise their potential. What could be more worthwhile? As I step down, I am fully confident that the Board, led by David King, will continue to lead this fantastic work with wisdom and courage.”
Colin, who helped Retrak migrate from a charitable trust to a company limited by guarantee and registered charity, said “When I wrote the Constitution…I proposed that on reaching 70 years of age Trustees consider resigning. I now feel bound by my own recommendation!” Chris Start also steps down as a trustee having completed his agreed 12 month term, the board benefited enormously from Chris’ expertise. We are sad to see them go but wish them well, and hugely thank them, as they move on from the board while remaining firm supporters of Retrak.
David King, an existing trustee, becomes the new Chair of the board. Chartered Accountant David is a retired NHS CEO who currently teaches ESOL and also been involved in voluntary, short-term development work in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia as well as Asia. Diana White, Simon Banks and Mike Royal stay on and bring valuable continuity to the Board; they are joined by our newest trustee - Mick Pease. With these changes Retrak continues to have a strong Board of committed and highly competent Non-executive Directors who will work in partnership with the Retrak staff team to help street children realise their potential, discover their self worth, and offer them a permanent alternative to life on the streets.
