Former Street Boy Graduates

1/29/2010

Taban* a former street boy in Kampala has graduated from University with a BA in Social Work and Social Administration. Taban, who ran away from home in Uganda to escape an abusive father, spent some time in a Rwandan refugee camp before turning to the streets of Kampala. There, Taban came into contact with Retrak who assisted and supported him, including providing catch up education; all of which eventually helped enable him to obtain a place at university.

Whilst celebrating his success with Retrak staff and street children at Retrak’s Clubhouse in Kampala, Taban said “... now I plan to get a job so that I can help my mother, brothers and sister have a better life. When I was a child living on the street I would never had believed that I could achieve my dream of graduating from university. I am truly grateful to Retrak and their supporters for helping me to change my life. ”
