£1m boost from Comic Relief!

Retrak is celebrating with our red noses firmly in place at the news of a million pound grant from Comic Relief for our Uganda programme.

CEO Sir Peter Fahy said: “Comic Relief set very challenging criteria before they make awards because they want to know that the money is used to have the greatest benefit for vulnerable children. It is great that they have this confidence in Retrak. They have seen our projects which support children who have run away from home to live on the street and get them back to their families.”

Peter added: “This money is raised through the great generosity of British people and businesses and I can assure them it will make a huge difference to thousands of children over the next four years.”

Retrak will use the grant to set up women’s self-help groups in communities surrounding Kampala and Mbale (two main cities) to strengthen families, prevent children from coming to the streets and raise awareness about child trafficking.

Recognised globally within the field of child protection and family separation, Retrak has been visited by Comic Relief supporters such as US actor Jack Black and comedian Ed Burns. Click on the names to watch their videos about Retrak’s programmes.
